Confidence! Sometimes this is lacking and sometimes we have to pretend we are a bit more confident than we are. Hollywood, have you ever heard the expression, "Fake it until you make it". Normally when we talk about stage fright, we think immediately about doing a speech. However, whether you are doing a speech, meeting a potential new client, going on a first date or to a party, going to court, you name it.

The thing to remember is that no matter who you are, at some point we have all suffered from "stage fright". The thing to keep in mind is that we are all human, we all have to do things from time to time that will cause our adrenaline to flow and our hearts to pump faster and our whole phsiological system to go into overdrive.

Remember, you are capable, you are worthy and you can do it. Think of your positives, we can always find negatives but concentrate on how good you are and why you are there. Would you be invited to that party if you were not wanted? Would you be giving that speech if you did not have something of value to say? If you do have to go to court, if you are innocent, that should make you feel better and if not, then you have to face your consequences but ...ultimately try and act confidently and remember you have a lot to offer and you will do well. Practice makes perfect!
Breathing, it is really amazing that sometimes when we get into stressful situations, we forget to breath. You may think that is ridiculous. I always breath, but yet how your breath and concentrating on your breathing is a huge leg up to help you with any stressful situation, especially stage fright.

A deep inhale through the nose and held for a few seconds and released from pursed lips is an excellent way to reduce stress and control your heart beat.
.....In fact, if you are not nervous, you probably will not do as well as you could have. A bit of anxiety or nerves is not only normal, but important. If you do not have some excitement about your pending performance, can you really peak? The key is not to be too nervous, where it prevents you from  performng well or at your peak.
Getting nervous before a presentation or performance is normal............................

FIND OUT THE TRUTH!

Thursday, 1 March 2012

Hi there, I recently had an experience that frankly, freaked me out. To be honest, I never expected to get what is referred to as Stage Fright but Man it happened to me. My brother in law asked me to be his best man and I was so happy. He has so many friends and family and he is a chilling guy and he could have had anyone be his best man, but he picked me. It was jokes! I was so happy, I guess you could say even flattered. We had the wedding two weeks ago and I still have not gotten over it.
You know how they say practise makes perfect. Man they know what they are talking about. I was so horrible, I would say stupid is what comes to mind. I stood up, never prepared anything and started talking about first my brother in law and how I never liked him at all, then about my sister and how I never liked her at all either. Then it got worst. I could sense the crowd’s displeasure me and I started to get panicky. This is when I would say what was horrible became a nightmare. Man, I can tell you that I honestly do not believe most best man’s get booed but that is what happened to me. First my Dad had to get up apologise to the crowd for me, then my new brother-in law’s Dad, (not sure what you call him), let’s just call him Stan to protect the innocent. My sister cried and my brother in law kept shaking his head with his hands clutching his eyes. So, after that event, I came to the realization that practise makes perfect. In fact, even just a little review or some simple notes on a piece of paper would all have been excellent choices for me. So, here is a piece of advice for anyone who is ever asked to speak publicly. Take it seriously, recognize it is an honor and good speeches and good speech makers are not just by accident. Now I understand why Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy and people like Martin Luther King were all revered as phenomenal speech makers. They have an art and so based on the fact that my mother no longer cooks for me and my life is still not the same as nobody speaks to me in my family except my dog, here is what I would suggest if you ever have to make a speech or speak publicly, ever.

Who Gets Stage Fright?

Anyone who performs on a public stage, from kids in school to professional actors, is potentially at risk for stage fright. Hollywood lore is filled with tales of performers who have battled with this phobia," from Rod Stewart to Mel Gibson. One of the most famous and best-documented examples is Carol Burnett, who is alleged to have thrown up nightly before each show"
